Lowtalker - The Marathon Review

Lowtalker is a newer punk band that I just recently found out about. They play an emo/alternative style of punk, taking a new twist to it. This is their second EP release that was just released on September 18th this year. I personally enjoy their first release (People Worry About Everything) more than The Marathon EP. I feel like their first EP moved along more smoothly than this EP, though the songwriting on The Marathon is more mature than their first EP. So each EP has it's ups and downs, even though I understand what direction they were trying to go for on this EP I would have preferred they wrote something more like their first EP. On The Marathon EP, Lowtalker went for a slower punk sound while on their first EP it was a faster style of punk which I enjoyed more. Though this EP is slower than the first, this is still worth the listen.

My rating: 3/5.

Twitching Tongues - Preacher Man Review

Twitching Tongues are still fairly new to the scene. They can be described as a metal influenced hardcore band. This is only three songs but they are some of the most original and interesting songs I've heard in a while. I just wish it was longer. While Twitching Tongues has released two full lengths prior to this, all of the material that has been released stacks up to each other as good as the next. Preacher Man starts off the EP where you can clearly hear the metal influenced vocals with the hardcore guitar riffs. They blend together and mix very well, it's not a normal combination but they pull it off very well.     Preacher Man was as explained by the lead singer Colin Young as "Preacher Man is a true story about my mother, father, and a priest." The second song on the album "Feed Your Disease"  is more hardcore influenced than Preacher Man, but still has the metal influence. The last song is a Candlemass cover, which is a doom metal band and they put a very interesting take from it. They use acoustic/electric guitars and the very interesting type of vocals he uses. All in all, this album is really good and it makes me excited for their future releases.

Title Fight - Floral Green Review

Floral Green is the junior release by Title Fight, a four piece band from Kingston, Pennsylvania. Each of their past two releases, the band has taken on a different sound from the last. Their first album showed more of their punk roots stemming from the 90's band Lifetime. Their next album "Shed" showed more of a melodic hardcore feel. It still had the punk feel also but used more melodic parts in than their first album. Now, Floral Green is a complete mix of "The Last Thing You Forget "and "Shed" and even added a bunch of new elements that we have never heard inside a Title Fight song.  The album starts out with "Numb, But I Still Feel It" which reminds me of a B-Side that could have been taken from Shed. On their first album, Jamie and Ned share the vocals while Jamie did most of them. On Shed they switched roles while Ned did more of the singing while Jamie only had a few parts. On Floral Green it felt like Ned and Jamie split the roles on the album, which fits perfectly. Jamie's voice fit perfect on their first album and Ned's fit perfectly on their second. On Floral Green with the punk, hardcore, indie influences they use to mold the beautiful album, this will be one album that I will be replaying for a very long time.

What's Eating Gilbert - Cheap Shots Review

While many people know Chad Gilbert from his main project in New Found Glory, not many people know about this side project of his. I didn't even hear of it until recently when I came across it online. Chad Gilbert does vocals and guitars for this EP while he has a full band behind him. This is his fifth release under What's Eating Gilbert. Fans that are accustom to New Found Glory may be thrown off if it is their first time listening to this project. Chad mixes 50's style pop and punk together for this beautiful medley. This 5 song EP brings you back to the days of Buddy Holly and Elvis. The whole EP is perfect to sing a long to while reminiscing about the 1950's. If you ever wanted a revival of the 50's and Buddy Holly to be brought back, this is going to be the closest thing you'll find. Chad executes the 50's pop and punk mixture perfectly, using a different style of singing than he uses on any New Found Glory track. I'm a huge fan of this EP and I wish more people knew about this side project. Every chorus on this EP, Chad has some of the most catchy lyrics and vocal placement. I'm a huge fan of the sappy love songs he writes and all the memories he writes these songs about. One of the most interesting tracks is track 3 "Run For Your Life", reminds you of any movie from the 50's movie. Skating in the roller rink with a Little Richard song playing over the speakers and their bell bottom jeans and big dresses. My favorite track is "Complaining." It's a perfect sing-a-long song for any late night campfire. In the Chris sings "Complaining won't get you anywhere, you're just burning the ears of the people that are near. What's done is done so save your breath of air and go." While this is nothing like New Found Glory or anything Chad has ever done, this is worth the listen.
